After witnessing the urgent need to communicate the alert, he knew immediately that he wanted to become an on-air meteorologist with the goal of communicating weather hazards and weather-related news. His passion for meteorology was sparked when a tornado warning was issued during a live broadcast during his time with Telemundo. Growing up in a bilingual and multicultural environment just outside of Chicago, he became interested in broadcasting at a young age while watching Spanish television news shows. He also briefly held a role with NBC Telemundo. His previous role was as a multimedia journalist at Entravision Communications in Orlando, where he did extensive weather coverage during Hurricanes Irma, Maria, and Matthew, and also reported on various issues of importance to the Hispanic community in central Florida. Prior to his upcoming role with NBC10 and Telemundo62, he made history for AccuWeather as the first Central American meteorologist on an English-language national network in the United States. He was born in Guatemala, and migrated to the United States when he was 9 years old. Gómez is a bilingual meteorologist who is coming to Philadelphia from State College, Pennsylvania. “We are delighted to have Marvin and Michelle join the NBC10 and Telemundo62 team,” said Elizabeth Flores, Vice President of News for NBC10 and Telemundo62, in a press release. Gómez will serve both NBC10 and Telemundo62 and will primarily work weekends, while Rotella will be on NBC10 throughout the week. The stations announced that Marvin Gómez and Michelle Rotella will both be joining the stations as meteorologists. Starting Monday, July 18, NBC10 and Telemundo62 will be seeing two new faces in its meteorology team.
